City of Lincoln Council launches Social Responsibility Charter for star employers in Lincoln

Posted on 26th September, 2018 by Lincoln Against Poverty

The Lincoln Social Responsibility Charter has been launched by City of Lincoln Council to showcase star employers in Lincoln who go above and beyond to support their employees and the local community.

Through undertaking a range of socially responsible activities, employers can expect to reap rewards for their organisation such as increased staff retention, reduced recruitment costs, a more productive workforce, better brand recognition, improved business reputation, increase in profits, customer loyalty and recognition as an ethical employer.

In turn, employees can expect to receive a range of benefits from their employer which can make a real difference, including fair pay, career breaks, holiday purchase schemes, additional training and development, walk/cycle to work initiatives, staff recognition schemes and health support.

There are also a wide range of socially responsible activities that can be undertaken by an organisation to benefit the local community, such as offering apprenticeship placements, community group training, fundraising, green space sponsorship, donations, employee volunteering, proactive support of community events and more.

To gain accreditation as a socially responsible employer, the charter requires small organisations of one to 10 employees to proactively undertake a minimum of three socially responsible activities, medium organisations of 11 to 49 employees to undertake a minimum of five socially responsible activities and large organisations of over 50 employees to undertake a minimum of ten socially responsible activities. Organisations are required to include a combination of activities that benefit the employee and the local community.

By signing up to the charter, the organisation will receive a personalised version of the charter endorsed by the Mayor of Lincoln, a Lincoln Social Responsibility Charter logo for use on documents and marketing material, promotion from City of Lincoln Council and invitations to City of Lincoln Council led consultations and Mayoral Charity events.

There is no cost to the organisation to sign up to the charter.

Councillor Ric Metcalfe, Leader of City of Lincoln Council, said: “We are delighted to introduce the Social Responsibility Charter to award our role model employers who go the extra mile to reduce inequality and enhance Lincoln as a place to work.

“We’ve seen organisations doing all sorts of positive activities, including paying the Living Wage and granting leave for employees to engage in community activities around the city.

“This charter is not only of benefit to the employee, but the employer receives a host of benefits such as a happy workforce leading to increased staff retention and happy customers, making it a fantastic opportunity.

“All you have to do is sign up on our website and demonstrate what positive activities you are undertaking as an organisation.

“We strive to become a more socially responsible city and look forward to welcoming more organisations on board.”
